I thought about that. new hubby needs new toys
“you should sell your old ring for 4 wheelers”
best friend growing up, her mom splits and marries a guy we all call “lumberjack craig” despite actually being a trucker, and they move to the middle of nowhere town in southern utah and he proceds to live his best life on her dime (she works, he doesn’t). He keeps buying toys. Boom, 2 years later and lessons learnt she’s single again.

They’ll be lucky to get 1/10th of the “appraised” value. 2nd hand jewelry has worse depreciation than a 20 year old BMW 7 series.

Depends on how trashy the first husband was.

I mean, they might potentially get in the range of $3000-$4,000 selling it to a jeweler, seems like that would be the best way to go, since they’re not asking for the full 5k from the start.
Forget the $8200 initial cost, the price tag the jewelry store sticks on diamonds has nothing to do with anything beyond what they think they can convince someone to pay for them.

There are several non-sad possibilities.
1. It’s from a previous relationship
B. They bought a new ring that she likes better.
III. She just doesn’t like jewelry and would rather have a toy they can enjoy together.
|-4| Its stolen.

Or stolen. Probably stolen.

I realize I’m weird, but spending that kind of money in the first place on a small object that just sits on your finger is just silly to me. So part of me is like “at least a motorcycle/boat/utv is an interactive object that creates adventures/memories/etc”

Silicone wedding rings have been a thing for a while.
They are commonly used as “training” rings, since most men aren’t used to wearing rings. Seems dumb to ke, but I guess it is a legitimate thing.
They are also used by folks who don't want a metal ring that is going to get banged up and worn down.

Don’t wear rings; rings damage shift knobs and steering wheels! That’s my reason to spend money on toys instead of jewelry (except the Miata Seiko, that’s worth it).

You ever try reselling a diamond? De Beers has made sure that is as difficult as possible.

An d electricians. That’s where I’ve seen them. Makes sense not wanting a conductive metal on a finger while reaching into electrical equipment.

I have a silicone ring that I wear mon-fri as a placeholder for my nicer (still only like $150) wood/titanium ring. I work for a contractor though and can't wear a normal ring for obvious safety reasons, also don't want to beat it up.

I like the sound of a wood/titanium ring. Could I trouble you for a picture?

Kinda hard to see, it's a darker wood (desert ironwood supposedly) but I really like it a lot. Still not in the best shape, I should probably refinish it in the next year or two.

The silicone rings are more commonly used by people who don’t want their fingers ripped off because the ring became caught on something. Electricians, plumbers, anyone in construction, athletes, people doing stuff outdoors. I think they can be a wise choice.

Thanks! I really love it I’m not a blingy guy at all, like I said it doesn’t really photograph well it’s a very dark wood, but it’s subtle and I love it. It was even made by a local craftsman when I lived in Denver too.

I nteresting. I guess the people in my office just adopted them for their own reasons for training and whatnot. I thought the training thing was unusual
